Further changes to suicide reporting proposed

MPs have backed a significant change to the Coroners Act to allow media to report a death as "suspected suicide".

Other proposed changes include new guidelines for deaths in custody and for armed forces personnel who are killed in action overseas.

Suicide rate remains 'stubbornly high'

The Chief Coroner says the suicide rate is stubbornly high and disappointingly consistent.

The latest figures show the overall rate has dropped slightly, with fewer young people taking their own lives, 
but there is a continuing rise in suicides among older people.
