Grief Support Services is a not for profit organisation committed to serving the community by providing counselling to people whose lives are

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
PURPOSE: To offer professional counselling to GSS clients and to provide education to the community about grief and loss.
REPORTS TO: Senior Counsellor / Team Leader
DIRECT REPORTS: None
KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. COUNSELLING
(a) Provide individual counselling sessions to adults
(b) Potential to provide individual counselling sessions to children and adolescents
(c) Provide family counselling sessions as required
(d) Provide telephone support as required
(e) Undertake home visits where necessary – includes hospitals etc
(f) Maintain accurate and current client records
(g) Provide written reports as required
(h) Provide opportunities for, and be responsive to, client feedback
(i) Undertake regular clinical supervision and professional development as identified and agreed upon the Team Leader.
(j) Keep informed of current trends and developments in the counselling and other relevant fields of practice.
(k) Attend Team meetings
2. STANDARDS OF PRACTICE
(a) Ensure all client contact is handled in a professional and respectful manner
(b) Effective communications systems and relationships operate within the organisation.
(c) Work within the parameters of the Grief Support Services Constitution
(d) Alignment to the NZAC Code of Ethics.
(e) Relevant statutory requirements are adhered to
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Desirable
Knowledge and experience
Recent or current practice experience.
Experience working with adults.
Experience working with clients impacted by loss and grief,
Understanding of, and commitment to, Te Tiriti O Waitangi.
Sound theoretical knowledge.
Experience working with children, young people and their families.
Confidence in establishing and maintaining professional relationships.
Qualifications
A counselling degree
Full membership of an NZ counselling body or a time framed
commitment to achieving this.
Current full and clean drivers licence,
Personal skills and attributes
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
Proven relationship management.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Personal maturity and integrity.
Even mindedness under pressure.
Enjoys being part of a team.
