Remembrance Picnic – Coming Together to Honour Loved Ones Lost to Suicide

Grief can feel heavy, but it becomes a little lighter when we share it with others who understand. Our Remembrance Picnic, on Sunday, November 16, from 12–3pm at Te Puna Quarry Park, is a gentle opportunity for our community to come together, remember loved ones lost to suicide, and spend time in a caring and supportive space.

Everyone is invited to bring along their own picnic — maybe something that reminds you of your loved one or food that simply brings comfort. We’ll have a special remembrance area where you can add a photo or message and take a quiet moment of reflection.

This year’s picnic includes a mix of creative and relaxing activities for all ages. There’ll be face painting, arts and crafts where you can make love hearts in memory of loved ones, and “Let It Go” water balloons for those who’d like a symbolic way to release emotions or send love. We’ll also have a free sausage sizzle, and everyone is welcome to take home a self-care goodie bag filled with small tools and reminders for wellbeing. Our remembrance area will feature a tree decoration and photo display, with colourful scarves creating a shared tribute to those we miss.

We know the time leading up to Christmas can be especially hard for those who’ve experienced suicide loss. By gathering now, we hope to offer space for gentle connection, shared stories, and quiet moments of hope.

The Remembrance Picnic is free to attend, and donations are welcome to support our ongoing grief and suicide-bereavement services in our local community.
